Myths, rumors and theories to put to rest.
1. If this individual had been involved in Los Angles' the Black Delihla murder, he would have been around 8 to 10 years old.
2. There is no evidence linking this individual to D.B. Cooper, the famous hijacker.
3. There is no evidence linking this individual as being any one of the Alcatraz escapees.
4. MOST IMPORTANT--Thanks to DNA testing, police have confirmed that the man who called himself Joseph Newton Chandler III is NOT The Zodiac Killer. In fact, the police have no evidence that he committed any crime before or after assuming the Chandler identity in 1979.

The Disappearance of The Thompson Family. Illinois 1996.

Everett Thompson Sr. owner of Eat and Company, a Park Manor neighborhood business, in Chicago, Illinois was last seen on July 5, 1996 by one of his employees. On that July afternoon Thompson's father phoned his son, Everett, at the Chicago restaurant. The elder Thompson recalled the topic of Kenneth White, his brother-in-law, an ex-convict, who posed as the freeloading house guest of Everett and his wife, Lydia Thompson. No sooner had the elder Thompson brought up White's name when Everett interrupted their conversation to take a frantic phone call from Lydia, at home with the couple's two sons, Everett Jr., 10, and Andrew, 8. Back on the line seconds later Everett's voice was tense. He told his dad he had to go home right away. Lydia's brother was chasing her around the house with an ax. She locked herself in the bedroom and called Everett to come home. The early July phone call was the last time either man spoke to the other. Everett's family reported him missing on July 17, 1996, when she was unable to contact him, his wife Lydia, or either of their two sons, Everett, Jr. and Andrew. Kenneth White, Lydia's brother, had been questioned on several occassions regarding the disappearance of the family and was indicted for falsifying his sister's signature on documents immediately following her disappearance. White committed suicide in December of 1997 without revealing any information he may have had regarding the family. Gone, is the family van--since crushed in a salvage yard--and the interior of their home in the 8100 block of South Rhodes Avenue, which was gutted and rehabbed by new owners. Police say if there was foul play, and they think there was, it happened on July 4, 5 or 6, 1996. No one saw the Thompson family after that time and Kenneth was seen driving the Thompson van soon after that weekend. Click on the web links below, read the case files and if you have any information on the whereabouts of The Thomspon Family, contact your local police.

The Disappearance of The Westerfield Brothers. North Carolina 1964.

On September 12, 1964, the boys' stepfather dropped off The Westerfield brother’s at the popular Broadway Theater, on Hay Street at 5:30 p.m. in Fayetteville, North Carolina. The stepfather stated he returned to the theater about 8 p.m., and that both Alan and Terry were gone. When the boys vanished, authorities were not sure if the brothers ever made it to the theater. Some employees interviewed said they saw the boys, others said they did not. Neither child was ever heard from again and police think the boys were killed the day they disappeared. Heavy rains from hurricane Dora late that night and the next morning hampered the search. Authorities questioned the stepfather who was separated from the boys' mother, at the time. His account of what happened that evening was sketchy. Police also questioned the boys' natural father and concluded that he did not take the boys. At the time of their disappearance, Alan Westerfield is described as a 6 year old, white male standing 3 feet 10 inches tall, with sandy hair and blue eyes. His older brother Terry is described as an 11 year old white male standing 4 feet seven inches tall with red hair and blue eyes. Click on the web links below, read the case files and if you have any information about the disappearance of The Westerfield Brothers contact your local police.

The Disappearance of The Leslie Sisters. Arizona 1974.

Cynthia and Jackie Leslie were last seen walking towards a friends home three blocks away from their own residence in the Desert Sands Mobile Home Park in east Mesa, on July 31, 1974. They had just moved there a month earlier from Page, Arizona, so that their father, who was suffering from terminal cancer, could be closer to the hospital. They told their mother that they were scheduled to babysit, but she learned afterwards that they planned to attend a party. Cindy likely was meeting a boy her father had forbidden her to see. Teenagers who attended the party were questioned and their stories conflicted. One teenager said the sisters did show up at the party; others said they didn't. Neither Cynthia Leslie nor her sister Jackie have been heard from since. In the weeks following the girls' disappearance, family members and sheriff's deputies searched orange groves and cotton fields. These fields have since been replaced by subdivisions, apartments, theaters and stores. Click on the web links below, read the case files and if you have any information about Cynthia and Jackie Leslie, contact you local police.

The Disappearance of The Lyon Sisters. Maryland 1975.

Shiela Lyon and her younger sister Katherine departed from their family's residence in Kensington, Maryland on March 25, 1975 between 11:00 AM- 12:00 PM. The girls were walking to the Wheaton Plaza Shopping Center in Wheaton, Maryland located on the corner of University Boulevard and Veirs Mills Road. The sisters were on spring vacation from school and wanted to see the Easter exhibits at the mall, as well as have lunch at The Orange Bowl Restaurant .
A neighborhood child saw the girls outside the restaurant at approximately 1:00 PM. and told investigators they were speaking to an unidentified middle-aged man wearing a brown suit. The man was carrying a briefcase with a tape recorder inside. There were also other children around who were speaking into a microphone he was holding. The witness' description of the man led authorities to view the unknown person as a prime suspect in the Lyon sisters' case and a sketch of the individual was created.
The final confirmed sighting was when a friend stated that the girls were walking westward down Drumm Avenue near Devon Street between 2:30 - 3:00 PM. When Katherine and Sheila hadn’t returned to the residence by 7:00 PM, authorities were summoned and an extensive search was conducted. No evidence of the Lyon sisters' whereabouts could be located.

The Case of The Peach Tattoo. New York 1997.

On June 28, 1997, a dismembered body was discovered in a wooded area of Hempstead Lake State Park, Lakeview, New York. Both arms, head, and legs below the knee were severed and have not been located. The torso was found on the west side of Lake Drive, about 200 yards north of Peninsula Boulevard. With no leads to the woman’s identity, the police published a picture of the approximately two-inch wide Peach tattoo, in the shape of a heart on the left breast, in a national tattoo magazine, in the hopes of finding the artist who did the work. They received a call from a man in Connecticut who claimed he remembered giving the tattoo to a woman. The artist said he remembered the customer as a young black woman, about 18 or 19 years old, who was accompanied by two women, an aunt and a cousin. During the session, he also claimed she told him she was from either the Bronx or Long Island and that she was in Connecticut because she having trouble with her boyfriend at the time. It is possible the woman had other tattoos on her arms or lower legs that the killer did not want found. The Mystery of Lehigh River. Pennsylvania 1976.

On December 20, 1976, the remains a body were found in three suitcases along the Lehigh River in Carbon County, Pennsylvania, under a bridge of westbound Interstate Route 80. An autopsy revealed the victim had been strangled, then shot in the neck and then dismembered. Her killer had removed her nose and ears. It was determined that she had been dead less than 24 hours from the date she was found. There were letters and numbers written on the left hand of the victim. While there were different interpretations of what was actually written on the hand, almost definitely were the letters WSR. Next to that was either a 4 or a 5. Below and to the right was either a 4 or 7. Police checked license plates and CB call signs but were unable to determine the significance of the notations. The three suitcases the remains were found in were all the same size. Two of them were blue in color, one was blue & tan plaid. The handles had been cut off of the suitcases before they were dropped at the site and the zippers had been painted with flat black paint. Inside the suitcases, the police also found straw, dry packing foam, a cut up chenille bedspread and six sections of the New York Sunday News dated September 26, 1976. The victim is described as a white female, standing 5 feet 4 inches tall, who was between the ages of 16 to 22 years old, with brown eyes and brown hair. The victim was also carrying a full-term white female fetus at the time of her death. The Disappearance of Actress Jean Elizabeth Spangler. California 1949.

Jean Elizabeth Spangler was born in Seattle, Washington, on September 2, 1923 and graduated from Franklin High School in Los Angeles in 1941. While working as a dancer with the Earl Carroll Theatre, Jean met and married Dexter Benner, a local manufacturer in 1942, and they had a daughter, Christine, who was born April 22, 1944. Two years later, in 1946, she had a bitter court battle with her ex-husband about getting custody of their young daughter. In 1948, ruling a daughter's place is with her mother, a judge awarded full custody to Jean. The brown haired, 27 year old divorced mother continued her acting career and soon received a bit part working on the motion picture, A Man with a Horn, with actor Kirk Douglas. At 5 p.m. on October 7, 1949, the 27 year old actress, kissed her daughter goodbye and told her sister-in-law that she was going to work on a movie set after she met with her ex-husband to discuss overdue child support payments. That was the last time anyone saw her.On October 9th, a Griffith Park reported finding Jean Spangler’s purse near the entrance to the park, apparently with most of it's original contents still intact and undisturbed. After a 60-man search of Griffith Park turned up no additional clues, investigators went to work reconstructing Jean’s last hours before her disappearance. Dexter Benner denied having seen Jean for weeks, a story backed up by Benner’s new wife. Further investigation revealed Jean Spangler was three months pregnant. An unfinished note in the purse addressed to a "Kirk" read "Can't wait any longer, Going to see Dr. Scott. It will work best this way while mother is away." The note ended with a comma as if it hadn't been finished. Police concluded that the “Kirk” referred to in the note was not actor Kirk Douglas since he had been vacationing in Palm Springs at the time of Jean’s disappearance. Police also learned none of the movie studios had scheduled any kind of a late night shoot. Click on the web links below, read the case files and if you have any information about the disappearance of JEan Elizabeth Spangler, contact your local police.

The Disappearance of Texas A&M Student Suzanne Rene Richersen. Texas 1988.

Suzanne Rene Richerson is described as a white female, 5 feet 8 inches tall with brown hair and blue eyes. Suzanne, who goes by her middle name, Rene, was 22 years old at the time of her disappearance. Suzanne Rene Richerson was a student at Texas A & M University in Galveston, Texas and was employed as a night clerk at Casa Del Mar Condominiums on Seawall Boulevard. Richerson was described as a good student having moved to Galveston to complete her senior year while majoring in maritime administration and possibly a degree in maritime law. Richerson was last seen at work at approximately 6:00 a.m. on October 7, 1988 by resort security guards. Another employee who was sleeping in a room above Richerson's office heard a female scream shortly after the guards left the vicinity. A car door slammed shut, accompanied by another scream and the sound of a car speeding away from the parking lot shortly thereafter. A guest arrived at Richerson's office to check out at approximately 6:30 a.m. and discovered the desk was abandoned. There was no sign of a struggle and Richerson's purse, books and car were left at the resort. One of Richerson's shoes was located in the parking lot later in the morning, but she has never been seen again. Foul play is suspected in Richerson's case. Her disappearance may be connected to a string of over 20 women who have been abducted and/or murdered in the Galveston, Texas area since the 1970's. A task force comprised of local law enforcement officials and Federal Bureau Of Investigation (FBI) agents has been formed to investigate the incidents called Operation HALT (Homicide/Abduction Liason Team). One suspect, Gabriel Soto, died as the result of an apparent drug overdose in late July 2002. Authorities stated that they believed Soto was involved in Richerson's abduction, but he was never charged in connection with her disappearance. Soto was arrested sometime before his death after allegedly attempting to run his vehicle over another individual. Two cousins were questioned about Richerson's case in May 2001. Media sources claimed that officials had located circumstancial evidence that connected the men to her disappearance. Both cousins resided in Galveston in 2001 and allegedly denied any involvement in her case. Click on the web link below, read the case file and if you have any information, contact your local police.

"The Franklin Floyd Affair." Texas to Oklahoma. 1973 through 1994.

A mystery in the making that took over 20 years. 32 year old Franklin Floyd abducted a young girl between June 1973 and August 1975 and passed her off as his daughter as he raised her under several aliases in several different states. Over the years, he sexually abused her and took pictures of her from the age of four to pre-teen years engaging in sexually explicit conduct. The unidentified woman graduated from high school in Forest Park, Georgia under the name “Suzanne Davis” in 1986. Later in the year she moved to Phoenix Arizona and began using the alias “Sharon Marshall.” Then moved to Tampa, Florida and using the name Tonya Tadlock, gave birth to a son named Michael Anthony Hughes on March 21, 1988. Using the name Clarence Marcus Hughes, Franklin Floyd married his “daughter” Tonya Tadlock in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1989. A year later in 1990 both Franklin Floyd and his wife/daughter were wanted in connection with a Florida Homicide, but before any legal proceedings could begin, Tonya was killed in a very suspicious hit and run accident where Floyd was allegedly the main suspect, but was never charged. The son, Michael Hughes was placed in foster care. On September 12, 1994, Floyd walked into Michael’s school in Choctaw, Oklahoma and at gun point, forced the school’s principal, James Davis, to take him to Michael’s first grade classroom where they were both kidnapped and drove away in a pickup. Davis was ordered to drive out into the country where Franklin Floyd handcuffed the school principal to a tree and fled with Michael Davis. The principal was rescued five hours later. There was no sign of Floyd until his arrest when he was employed as a painter. During police interviews, Floyd stated that his son, Michael Davis, was alive and living in a foreign country. However, in formerly sealed documents, Floyd allegedly confessed to three people including his sister that he drowned Michael in a motel bathtub possibly somewhere in Georgia. A check of missing person’s databases has turned up no leads as to Tonya’s true identity. To add to the mystery of the case, earlier blood tests concluded that Franklin Floyd was not Michael Davis’ biological father. Floyd his currently serving a 52 year prison sentence for kidnapping Michael.

The Mystery Woman of El Dorado. Arkansas 1991.

The victim, who is described as an 18 to 21 year old white female, with blonde hair and stands at 5 feet 11 inches tall, was found murdered at the Whitehall Motel in El Dorado, Arkansas on July 10, 1991. Her identity is unknown since she apparently used several aliases throughout the years prior to her death. An investigation by the authorities determined that the victim had resided in the Dallas, Texas, Shrevport, Louisiana; and Little Rock, Arkansas.
-
At the time of her death, she was a resident of El Dorado when she went to the Whitehall Motel where James Roy McAlphin dragged her into the parking lot and beat her, then took her into the motel room and shot her. McAlphin was convicted of her murder and is in prison. The victim came to El Dorado, Arkansas from Dallas, Texas in early 1991 where she used the name "Kelly Carr/Karr" and worked as a prostitute at a club called the Carousel. After leaving Dallas, she stopped off in Shreveport and then arrived in El Dorado. The victim, who suffered beatings from her clients visited the hospital emergency room frequently and was arrested in May of 1991 for bad checks where she gave the name "Cheryl Ann Wick" from Minneapolis. Prior to her death, she worked as a topless dancer in Little Rock and that is where she told her "friends" she was originally from Florida. Police believe she may have been a runaway, which is why she didn’t use her real name.

After her death, police found a Bible in her belongings, which belonged to a family in Irving, Texas she had lived with for a while. At some time she was arrested in Dallas and Houston with the alias's: "Cheryl Wick", "Sharon Wiley", "Kelly Carr" and "Mercedes".
-
When found, she had an Arkansas ID card which read "Cheryl Ann Wick". They located the parents' address and when they called, Cheryl Wick herself answered and said she didn’t know the victim. The police believe that this was a case of identity theft. A detective found a copy of a letter sent from the police to the FBI stating that the suspect had given the name "Kelly Lee Carr" and that she was wanted in Virginia and along the East Coast for bank robbery.

The Tragedy of Springfield. Missouri 1992.

On June 7, 1992 Sherrill Levitt, her daughter Suzanne Streeter and family friend, Stacy McCall disappeared without a trace from the Levitt home at 1717 E. Delmar, Springfield, Missouri. Upon officers' arrival, the house bore no signs of a struggle, but rather the appearance of the missing women being "captured." All personal property was left behind including purses, money, clothing, cars, keys, cigarettes, and the family dog. Sherrill Levitt was last heard from at approximately 11:15 p.m. on June 6, 1992 when she talked with a friend about painting a chest of drawers. Levitt's car, purse, and keys, were left at the home and it was apparent that her bed had been slept in when friends and police arrived to check the residence. Stacy McCall and Suzanne Streeter had graduated from high school the day before their disappearance and were last seen at 2:15 a.m. on June 7, when they left a graduation party in a nearby community enroute to the Levitt/Streeter home in Springfield. Evidence indicated they had since their clothing, jewelry, purses, and vehicles were still at this location. No trace of them has been found since. Click on the web links below, read the case files and if you have any information on Sherrill Levitt, Suzanne Streeter and Stacy McCall, contact your local police.

The Disappearance of Baseball's Tolbert Percy Dalton. Maryland 1948.

Tolbert Percy Dalton is described as a white male, 5 feet 10 and a ½ inches tall with Brown hair. The 63 year old Dalton was last seen on July 4, 1948 while living in Catonsville, MD. He left Sunday morning to attend a service at the Columbia Primitive Baptist Church in Burtonsville, Montgomery County, Maryland. He never showed up at the church and he never returned home. Mr. Dalton was a professional baseball player from 1910 through 1916 for the Brooklyn Robins, the Buffalo Blues and The Detroit Tigers. No record of a police investigation into the case has been found. The only investigation into Dalton's disappearance known to date was carried out by members of his congregation. Dalton's case has long intrigued a small group of researchers belonging to the Society for American Baseball Research. They have gleaned bits of information over the years, mostly from talking to Dalton's relatives and members of the Primitive Baptist Church.
